Time Trialling // 2024

From a very dry 2023 for Time Trialling came a turnaround year. Not in terms of a lot of racing, but in a very specific achievement, and my thoughts and actions off the back of it. 2023 had shown itself to be a tough year. My Mum had been very unwell, and sadly died around the start of 2024 – a difficult time for anyone. Work was very busy and cycling motivation had left me ever since the end of my 2023 French Diagonale.

Straightening the ship, I got back to my commutes into work and tried to do these consistently a couple of times per week. Eventually, this led to me somehow convincing myself that I should ride the National 24 Hour TT – a goal long held for me. So, that became my main motivation and target. I did ride a few club TTs and got a 5th and a couple of 4th places, but really my whole focus was on the long one.

2024 RTTC National 24 Hour Time Trial (Mersey Roads)

You can read how it all went here.

Stats:

  • July 27th / 28th
  • Course: D24HR
  • Official Distance: 403.31 Miles
  • Avg Speed: 16.8Mph
  • Avg Weighted Power: 171Watts
  • Placing: 12th from 40 finishers
  • 3rd Veteran Male (45-49)
  • Spindata category: None (due to no open TTs for a while)

I was so encouraged by riding >400 miles on not a great deal of training that I got to thinking what could I do if I really applied myself for 2025? This is when I decided to engage a cycling coach to help me get more out of myself.
